HOW TO STOP HAIR FALL THE RIGHT WAY – ACCORDING TO YOUR DOSHA January 31, 2021 – Posted in: Beauty – Tags: , , ,

It’s completely alright to lose 50 to 100 strands of hair per day. But if you lose anything more than that, you should start to get worried, and look for ways to stop the hair fall problem and to promote new hair growth.

Let’s use Ayurveda to take a holistic look at haircare. The basic principle of Ayurveda is that the body is governed by three energies—Vata (air + ether), Pitta (fire + water) and Kapha (earth + water), and the harmony between the three is the key to wellbeing.

Don’t know whether your dosha is Vata or Pitta or Kapha type? Click here to take our dosha quiz.

The Vata Haircare Regimen

Characteristics: A normal Vata type tends to have thin, straight hair with higher porosity. It’s normal to dry, with hair slightly rough and sometimes curly. An imbalance in Vata dosha causes excessive dryness, flaky dandruff, frizzy and brittle hair. It may also cause hair thinning and split ends.

Hair Care & Supplements: It is recommended that Vata type applies oil to the hair at least 2 to 3 times a week with almond oil, castor oil or sesame oil. Take a Vata supplement that contains Ashwagandha. Ashwagandha can prevent hair loss by targeting one of its main sources: stress. By reducing inflammation, this root provides mood-boosting energy and alleviates anxiety.

Daily Diet: Vata is a cold and dry dosha, therefore, warming, grounding, and nourishing foods like nuts and seeds, with moderately heavy texture, with healthy fats (like Omega 3 fatty acids) are advised. Choose salty, sour, and sweet tastes as well as soothing and satisfying foods. Cut down on consumption of tea, coffee, and caffeinated soft drinks.

The Pitta Haircare Regimen

Characteristics: Pitta hair tends to be normal to slightly wavy with a medium thickness and hair density, medium strength, and length. Aggravated pitta often leads to excess heat in the hair follicles, which may be damaging. This causes thinning and early greying.

Hair Care & Supplements: It is recommended that Pitta type applies cooling oil to the hair two-three times a week with coconut oil infused with black cumin seeds. Take a Pitta Supplement that contains herbs such as Shatavari and Amla. Shatavari helps to strengthen the roots of hair and help maintain colour and luster. Amla provides nourishment to your hair follicles so that your natural hair regrowth is strong and dense.

Daily Diet: Those with predominant pitta should refrain from spicy and astringent foods, and look for foods that are alkaline, which cool and soothe the digestive fire. You should also avoid tea and coffee as they activate Pitta. Avoid very sour and fermented food.

The Kapha Haircare Regimen

Characteristics: Kapha hair is thick, smooth, lustrous, well-hydrated, straight, and strong. An imbalance in the kapha dosha can result in excess oil secretion that blocks the follicles of your scalp, which leads to wet and sticky flakes.

Hair Care & Supplements: Given its tendency to become oily, Kapha hair needs to be washed regularly to keep the oil in check. It is also useful to do a weekly head massage with olive oil. Take a Kapha supplement that contains herb such as Triphala to help with cleansing and nourishing of body and scalp.

Daily Diet: Those with the Kapha dosha should focus on warm, light, foods made with dry cooking methods like baking, broiling, grilling, sautéing, etc.
