How To Reduce Stress Naturally April 15, 2020 – Posted in: Lifestyle – Tags: , , , , ,

“Stress is not what happens to us. It’s our response to what happens. And our response is something we can choose.”

Ayurveda believes that you have the power to take control and reduce stress naturally. By knowing and understanding your dosha you can learn how to reduce stress. By staying tuned in to your dosha, you’ll stay balanced and grounded and know the initial warning signs your body gives you to let you know when it’s stressed out.

Here’s how you can handle your stress depending on your dosha type.

HOW VATA CAN REDUCE STRESS

Those with Vata dosha tend to over-analyse situations and consider all the ways that a situation could potentially go wrong. This send them deeper into their anxiety.

It’s important for them to stay present and come back to their breath with a grounding practice.

If you are a Vata, spend time barefoot to ground yourself and balance your lower chakras with the negative ions from the earth.

Get into your body and out of your head. Stay in the moment. Notice what you see, what you smell, what you hear, what you taste.

Return to your breath with mindful meditation. When you forget to breathe, you become anxious. By inhaling and exhaling, you re-centre your mind, spirit and body.

HOW PITTA CAN REDUCE STRESS

Those with Pitta dosha can become stressed easily. They are full of fire and so when they are stressed, they snap. In order for them to regain balance, they must cool down and put out their inner flame.

If you are a Pitta, practise cooling pranayama breathing techniques like Sitali or Sitkari.

Eat cooling food such as rice, sweet fruits and cucumber.

HOW KAPHA CAN REDUCE STRESS

When those with Kapha dosha are stressed, they don’t let anyone know. They hold it in their emotions. This can lead to depression, sadness, emotional eating and isolation.

If you are a Kapha, before you eat breakfast, do something to bring up your heart rate and make you sweat (like a morning Yoga sequence). After that you’ll feel instantly relieved.

Get outside of your comfort zone and try something new. This will break you out of your routine and help you reduce stress.

Eat three square meals a day without snacking in between to prevent emotional eating. This will prevent you from feeling sluggish throughout the day.
