How Emotion Can Affect Your Health and Skin September 18, 2018 – Posted in: Beauty, Lifestyle – Tags: ,

Drawing on the wisdom of ancient teachings, it is said that everything in the universe – dead or alive – is connected. If our mind, body, and spirit are in harmony with the universe, we have good health. When something disrupts this balance, we get sick. Among the things that can upset this balance are genetic or birth defects, injuries, climate and seasonal change, age, and your emotions.

Did you ever get angry when someone’s car bumped into yours, or when your date stood you up, or when someone accidentally spilled coffee onto your new blouse? It is near impossible not to be momentarily angered when such things happened. Luckily for you, this type of emotion doesn’t cause disease.

However, when we find ourselves in a constant state of anger (for example) regarding a specific situation in their life which is long lasting or ongoing and remains unresolved over a long period of time, this can definitely disturb the mind and lead to illness.

“To kindle your pithara agni [cellular digestion] is to look at every feeling and emotion without labelling it or naming it. Then what happens? The observer and observed become one. Then when a molecule of fear enters the cell, pithara agni [cellular digestion] transforms that fear into mind, memory, intellect and into pure consciousness. Then even fear nourishes consciousness and it is no longer fear but pure awareness.” – Dr. Vasant Lad, Ayurvedic Physician

According to Ayurveda, the body is a crystallization of the mind. The mind is, after all, the result of the past. So the many yesterdays of the past often dwells forgotten regrets, disappointments, and anger, which are stored throughout various parts of the body :

Liver – unresolved anger

Gallbladder – hatred

Kidneys – fear

Stomach & Colon – anxiety

Lungs – grief & sadness

Spleen – worry

For example, unresolved anger can accumulate in the liver and impair its functioning, unprocessed grief can disturb the lungs, and chronic anxiety can upset the health of the colon. But these are only a few simple examples; there are countless ways that such imbalances can manifest as physical disease.

Let’s look at how long-term emotional upset may manifest as skin woes.

Anger

Unresolved anger can accumulate in the liver and impair its functioning. Such long term anger is actually quite common in most of us, and it may be the reason behind all your persistent and annoying skin issues like heat rashes, red blotches or other kinds of skin inflammation.

Angry all the time? Look at ways to aid in optimising liver function, like liver cleanse and detox. Take our Samaya Skincare Supplements to cleanse and detox your body, while simultaneously replenishing and nourishing it. Also stop using conventional toxic skincare to reduce burden to your liver, and switch to our recommended brands of all natural and organic skincare products. Abhyanga, the ancient practice of self-massage with oil, can also help. I recommend to use our ultra-draining body oil, such as Freedom Elixir (available in store), which can help with elimination of toxins and wastes from the body, giving a sense of harmony, lightness and freedom, and ultimately less anger.

Fear

Those black circles under your eyes aren’t necessarily from sleep deprivation but can be associated with long-term fear affecting the kidneys. Samaya Skincare Supplements contain various ayurvedic herbs, such as Gotu Kola, to help support the kidney function. Do also continue to use a non-toxic eye care product twice daily to prevent premature aging of the eye contour area.

Anxiety

Anxiety can lead to itchy skin by causing the body to release a compound called histamine, which induces itching, flushing and rashes. For those already suffering from acne, eczema, hives, psoriasis, rosacea, and skin picking, anxiety can increase symptoms and cause uncomfortable flare-ups. You can reduce these symptoms with Esse Probiotic Serum.

At the same time, you will also observe changes to your stools, and you may have some forms of stomach pain, stomach cramping, and intestinal discomfort that is hard to describe. These can all be the result of persistent anxiety. Googling your symptoms is the worst thing you can do, because you will suspect that maybe you suffer from colon cancer and such anxiety attack is not going to help you. Do you know that 95% of our brains nerves associated with anxiety are located in the bowel. So, let’s drink a cup of probiotic-infused Matcha Tea to reduce anxiety and calm our nerves.

Grief

The lungs are directly affected by emotions of grief and sadness. When it comes to presenting as skin issues, there may be a host of skin conditions including hives, eczema, psoriasis, and acne to name a few. Whilst our Esse Probiotic Skincare can tremendously improve these skin problems, flare-ups will surely occur if you do not keep this emotion upset in check.

Learning to Let Go

We tend to forget that everything in life is temporary, and that nature follows a continual process of birth, growth, decay and dead. Buddhism teaches that emotion upset is due to our inability to let go. The first warning signs of our soon-going-to-deteriorate organs are now all over the skin of our face. You can control your own mind. It’s time to take a deep, long breath, smile, be grateful, and treat every new day as a fresh beginning…
