HOW TO STORE YOUR BRAS AND PANTIES January 30, 2018 – Posted in: Fashion, Lifestyle

For a woman, opening up a beautifully organized drawer of lingerie each morning can be one of life’s small pleasures. So, let’s start to declutter and get our lingerie organized:

Step 1: Out With the Old

Take all your bras and panties and sort them into only two piles: “to keep” and “to throw away”. No maybes. No maybe-it’ll-come-back-in-fashions. No giveaways, please.

First cull: Anything you really wouldn’t want to be hit by a truck while wearing. Grey ones that used to be white; anything ratty, ripped, stained, or spotted with holes. Talk to yourself : “Am I not good enough to wear good panties?”

With that same I’m-worth-it mentality, take a hard look at what’s left and throw it away if:

  • You haven’t worn it in a year (I bet you won’t ever wear it again).
  • The colour has faded.
  • The seams are beginning to come undone.
  • The elastic is going—or gone.
  • The underwires have lost their original shape or are poking through the fabric.
  • It doesn’t fit properly anymore. Weight fluctuates, especially when you are pregnant.
  • It didn’t fit properly to begin with.
  • It’s uncomfortable.

Step 2: In With the New

After you have thrown away the pile of “to throw away”, come visit us at our Lingerie Boutique to get new ones to find in the gaps.

We know that lingerie is a personal matter, and so is the amount of lingerie you choose to own. But if you want to simplify your life, you need: (a) enough plain, everyday underwear to get you through the week without having to do laundry; and (b) the kind of special-occasion lingerie that answers questions like, “What am I supposed to wear under that?” Between what you own and what you’re going to go out and buy, you should have:

7 simple, comfortable bras for daily wear. For work and weekends, you’ll want seamless ones that look smooth under T-shirts. Get a couple in black and a couple in a nude shade that blends with your skin. Nude is more modern than white, and more practical. Grey is getting more popular than nude. And if you can afford it, why not add in more coloured ones to match your outfit colour and to brighten up your days too.

1 black strapless bra for formal occasions and 1 nude strapless bra to wear under tank tops. You might also want to invest in 1 stick-on bra to wear under a backless evening gown and 1 full-body shaper set : a bra with a tight-fitting bodice, and control-top panties that extend to the middle of your thighs.

If you are uncomfortable with the idea of wearing strapless bra or stick-on bra, do not fret. We have various accessories to help you convert any bra to become a racer-back bra or backless bra.

For evenings and romantic encounters, look for pretty, lacy push-up bras in a variety of colours, and buy the matching thongs or panties. Trust me, your man will love you for this.

As for panties, some women buy matching ones for every bra and refuse to separate the set. Most women prefer to stick with the basic black and nude panties made from cotton or other breathable materials, and buy a variety of thongs or seamless panties to wear with tight trousers, bikini-style panties to wear with low-cut jeans or clothes that ride low on your hips, and boy-cut panties, which offer both coverage and freedom from panty lines.

Step 3. Arrange

Now that you have finished sorting out and filling in the gaps, it’s time to create a storage system that will allow you to see what you have and find things quickly.

If you have an extensive collection of lingerie, you might consider investing in a chest you can devote to it. But if that’s not a possibility, keep in mind this simple secret to organizational success: drawer dividers. They can be fabric-covered boxes and dividers (these can be found in Ikea).

A simpler option is to divide your drawer into a few sections and organize by colour. Or you can divide your drawer into just two sections and place your bras on one side and your panties on the other. But do try to keep your matching sets together.

You may want to fold your panties to conserve space. As for bras, never invert your moulded cups or push one cup into the other or fold it in half. Do you want to walk around with a dent in your boob that will show through your clothes? In order to keep the shape, lay them flat and line them up, one in front of the other, like what we do in our boutique.
